Chapter 21.2

Rachel’s father deeply sighed and took a sip from the glass of wine in front of him.

Then he gathered his words and continued, “Then… I need to talk about your engagement with His Highness.”

“Yes.”

“His Majesty plans to leave this matter to His Highness. If the engagement is annulled, the royal family will take responsibility and find Rachel’s husband candidate.”

Rachel wondered why His Majesty wouldn’t tell her to end this engagement.

Even her father went to discuss the annulment of her engagement with Louis shortly after her dying magic power was revealed.

Turns out the reason she didn’t hear anything was because His Majesty took Louis into consideration.

But why?

The crown prince played a very important role for this country.

Ignoring Rachel’s feelings, this engagement wasn’t the best way to serve the people of the country.

“But the situation has slightly changed. The spirit of darkness… we don’t know what kind of existence it is. Or how the public will react.”

“Yes, that’s right. I also investigated the spirit of darkness a little, but I couldn’t find anything in the books. Even in the stories, they are portrayed as an enemy because it is the exact opposite of light. Conversely, some stories make it as the shadow that supports light.”

“Yeah, we know nothing about it. But… what’s certain is they really exist. That’s why His Majesty cannot decide what to do with this engagement.”

Certainly, they had to know about what kind of existence the spirit of darkness was. That way, they would be able to know how it would benefit the country.

There were spirits with other attributes: water, fire, earth. As their name suggested, the spirits of one of those attributes could command it.

However, light and darkness had many mysteries.

Light existed, but only as an object of worship.

Darkness was believed to be an illusion, even its existence unclear.

And yet, Rachel had the magic power of darkness through Black, even if she couldn’t use it at all.

Black had given her the ability to walk on her own. She couldn’t thank him enough...

But this time, Rachel didn’t want to go the wrong way.

That’s why she decided to talk to her parents about her feelings and her determination today, right on this spot.

They would definitely listen to her. Believing so, Rachel straightened her posture and looked at her father and mother in turn.

“Father, Mother… I have something to discuss with you.”

“Sure.”

“What’s wrong, Rachel?”

“I haven’t thought about what I can do or what I should do until now. I was just walking straight ahead without thinking much about anything. However, after losing my magic power… I regret that I didn’t use my ability to accomplish something or help anyone.”

“...I see.”

Rachel’s father seriously listened to her words. Rachel’s mother chimed in with a gentle look.

“I don’t want to have regrets this time. I want to find out what I can do.”

“Yes. And what are you going to do to accomplish that?”

What was she going to do? She didn’t know how to answer that question.

“I have no idea… My world is too small, so I want to know the outside world first. I want to find something I can do with this hand.”

Rachel wanted to work on something. Rachel wanted to find something. Anything, whatever it could be.

She couldn’t give a clear answer and had no vision, but her mother nodded with a smile. “I understand. Then let’s go back to our family’s territory with me.”

“To the territory?”

“Yes. In the capital, you are famous as the crown prince’s fiancée. Not to mention, you are taking a break from the academy to treat your illness. What can you do in this situation?”

“...I see.”

That’s certainly true.

Rachel should go to the academy now that her condition has stabilized. Furthermore, neither her father nor her mother knew that she had died once.

But she still didn’t have the courage to meet her former friends and the Saint there.

She knew that if she didn’t face them, she wouldn’t be able to take a step forward.

Then again, she couldn’t do that yet.

Seeing Rachel’s embarrassment, Rachel’s mother’s smile deepened. Rachel relaxed her body when she noticed that.

Then she stared at her mother who tried to explain further. “But the territory is different. Unlike the royal capital, Marcel’s territory is a sea town. You haven’t been going far from the royal capital since you were a child, so I’m sure you don’t remember the faces of the people living in the territory. I’m sure this chance will widen your world more than it is now.”

“Thank you, Mother… Father, may I?”

Rachel’s father who had been quietly listening to their conversation nodded.

“Yes, do as you wish. But don’t overdo it. And make sure to speak to His Highness about this matter.”

“I understand.”

Her father calmly judged the situation and her mother gave her a suggestion.

She was once again reminded that her parents were irreplaceable and important to her.

This time, Rachel didn’t want to betray their kindness. She vowed to cherish the warm light in her heart she received from the couple.

After that, the atmosphere changed into a peaceful one, the room filled with harmonious laughter.
