Qin Ge, who was still distraught as he stood on the balcony, sensed Wu Tong’s presence. However, he only stiffened and didn’t dare to turn and look back. How will she look at me? Will she cry? Will she cause a scene? Or will she look at me in horror?

“What are you looking at?” Wu Tong’s voice sounded a little hoarse.

Qin Ge hesitated for 2 seconds before steeling himself and slowly turning around to find himself greeted by a tender smile on Wu Tong’s face.

“Did I wake up late?” Wu Tong asked in an apologetic tone.

Qin Ge reflexively shook his head.

“I’m a little hungry, is there anything to eat?” asked Wu Tong.

Qin Ge stuttered out, “I-I’ll go get you something from the dining room,” before rushing past Wu Tong and out the door.

By the time Qin Ge returned with an exceptionally sumptuous lunch, Wu Tong had already gone to the bathroom to freshen up. She looked a lot more refreshed as she sat down at the dining table in the living room, quietly waiting for him.

In that moment, Qin Ge had an illusion that the nightmarish scene from last night had never happened and that he could once again tease his wife as he pleased. And like before, his wife would blush and be at a loss for words as she indulged his teasing.

Wu Tong noticed the wounds on Qin Ge’s knuckles. “What happened to your hands?”

“Nothing.” Qin Ge hid his hands under the table.

Wu Tong blinked before she quietly resumed eating. After lunch, neither of them said anything to each other as they tacitly divided the space amongst themselves with one of them residing in the living room while the other stayed in the master bedroom.

*Ding dong*

Qin Ge, who was in a daze, got up from the living room. Puzzled, he opened the door and saw a hotel attendant standing before him.

The hotel attendant smiled as he handed Qin Ge the first aid kit. “Here is the first aid kit you asked for, sir.”

“We didn’t…” Qin Ge suddenly stopped mid-sentence and glanced in the direction of the master bedroom before taking the first aid kit. “Thank you.”

“I hope you have a pleasant stay,” the hotel attendant said with a smile before leaving.

As soon as Qin Ge put the first aid kit on the coffee table, Wu Tong emerged from the master bedroom. She glanced at the first aid kit before saying, “The hotel sent this.”

“Yeah.” Qin Ge nodded affirmatively with an unreadable look in his eyes.

Wu Tong walked over to the coffee table and opened the first aid kit. She took out a tincture of iodine and bandages before looking up at Qin Ge.

Qin Ge hesitated for a moment before obediently giving her his hands.

When Wu Tong saw the bloodied wounds on Qin Ge’s knuckles, the last bit of anger within her was dispelled. He really did a number on himself.

“Why are you giving me both your hands? Let me attend to this one first,” Wu Tong said, somewhat exasperated.

“Oh.” Qin Ge obediently retracted one of his hands.

Wu Tong gently dabbed the wound with iodine. Even after disinfecting two of his wounds, Qin Ge didn’t wince in pain. Instead, he was all smiles as he watched her attend to his wounds. Suddenly, a surge of unprovoked anger arose within her and she roughly dabbed at his wound.

“OW!” She wasn’t sure if it actually hurt but Qin Ge audibly winced in pain. Looking as if he had been wronged, he said, “Honey, please be a little more gentle.”

“Serves you right,” Wu Tong chided.

“I did deserve it.”

You’re not even going to deny it? Wu Tong was somewhat taken aback as she glanced at him in awe. However, all she saw was a face full of mirth. The gloomy haze lurking in his eyes had finally dissipated.

After Wu Tong finished bandaging Qin Ge’s wounds, she angrily spat out: “If you’re going to do this again in the future, make sure I don’t see it.”

“Will you be heartbroken if you do?” Qin Ge smiled like a fool as he stared at the thick bandages wrapped around his hands.

“If I see it, I'll splash saltwater on your wounds.”

“Although that’s going to hurt a little, saltwater can actually help disinfect the wound. Honey, I just knew you still cared about me,” Qin Ge shamelessly teased.

“Shut up.” Wu Tong slammed the lid of the first aid kit shut.

“Honey.” Qin Ge’s tone suddenly became serious.

Puzzled, Wu Tong turned her head.

“Can I kiss you?” There was a sense of anticipation mixed with caution reflected in his eyes.

Wu Tong looked at him. Her heart twisted and turned a thousand times but she was unable to resist the cautious look in his eyes. “When have you ever asked for permission to kiss…?”

The last word she wanted to say (“me”) was blocked by Qin Ge’s eager but gentle kiss. Wu Tong instinctively closed her eyes and was immersed in the kiss.

After he finished kissing her, Qin Ge wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head on her shoulders without looking at her.

“Thank you, honey.”

These three simple words seemed to give Wu Tong a reason to remain strong. She slowly raised her arms and hugged him back. Perhaps I do have some feelings for you so I don’t want to give up so easily.
